Our Seven One Seven t-shirt honors the MD-95 - that’s what the 717 was called when originally developed by McDonnell-Douglas. Its name changed following a corporate merger, but the jet persevered in being a modern replacement for the DC-9-30. It was perfectly suited to its mission flying short-haul, high-capacity routes; in the early 2000s you’d find 717s in the skies across Europe, Australia and the United States. Not so today: Only two airlines still fly the 717, in Hawaii and the mainland United States. That makes it, paradoxically, a common sight for some airplane spotters but exceedingly rare for others. Combine that with distinctive retro styling, growly engines and steep, powerful takeoffs and you have the elements for an avgeek favorite.
This t-shirt feels soft and lightweight, with the right amount of stretch. It's comfortable and flattering.
